Our bastard of a PM has been thrown out at the federal election.

Finally we can get the fuck out of Iraq.

But as each nation pulls out, and eventually the US will too, how stable will it leave Iraq for the people there? Obviously Bush created a mess, but those nations that agreed to help shouldn't be running home with their tails between their legs. Who are you gonna ask for help when China decides to take over the world?

I'm asking b/c I've made this thing for my date coming up (if her dad will let her go <_< ) and its got 8 aerial shells going of this a comet to a lift cup (I think I've talked about this) then a fountain.

A cake fires one effect at a time, so it would be one shell after another, hence the name multi shot cake.

Ok. So then mines a cake? I think I'm getting this terminololgy stuff now.

Yep that's right. I consider anything that ignites separate devices in sequence to be a cake.

Hmmmm. So what is everyone doing for new years? I'm going to Utah (look at my name :D) to visit my sister and stuff maybe do a little bit of shooting in the dunes and go skiing/snowboarding if my boots still fit (I haven't gone in like 3 years).

I plan to engorge myself with fried meats, and beer. (beer not fried) It's family tradition to fondue and what not on new years. I am thinking about making a few shells actually. A 5" sun and planets. 5" 5 timed spider, and a 6" double petal are on the list. Perhaps an 8" tester shell as well to make sure I have the burst and pasting down. Possibly a color to bottom shot shell for my grandpa. He does love the booms.

I usually get loaded somewhere for New Years. This year may be a little quiet though, as my baby is due late Dec :o . I doubt GF would like it if I was out partying while she's at home with the new pyro.

Has anyone noticed the HUGE amount of new members this year. In march we were around 1100 and now were almost at 3800. I hope this is to real people and not all of the spam we've seen this year. I just thought those were awesome numbers. I actually also wanted to post something positive. I feel like I'm in a jerk mood and just felt like posting something on the bright side.

Ah ha, shame on you, no dateing until after your mission, unless it's a double date, and you wait until your sixteen. :)

Yes, we do seem to be getting tons of new members... most of them not posting though. Doing a mass email to everyone reminding them of their account or something could possible stir some of them into actually posting. It also seems to me that lots of really basic questions are being asked way too often. Many people seem to not be researching enough. This is bad... as research is really crucial to life in this hobby. This is too often forgotten or never realized at all... -_-

I forgot how near new years was... Hopefully ill get another show to crew on. I could make some shells and take them out to a licensed friend's place... we'll see... I do have some win20 thats getting old... Still have not tested any crossettes...

Seems most of my focus is going to my furnace (ALMOST done) or into coding my website (isn't online)... The site is going to take a few months if i stay somewhat focused like i am now. I have the main pages made and templates for new pages to add as i see fit... which there will be hundreds of probably. I also have about 8 CSS style sheets to correspond with the main sections and the sub-section theme of each section. So for instance all the pyro pages will have a grey/red/orange kinda theme... and all the chem pages will have probably a grey/green kinda theme... All HTML and CSS by hand. Easy on the eyes. No blink or scroll tags lol.

ASB, if you don't mind my asking, what's the website going to be? A chem/pyro only site, or other topics as well? From your posts you seem to have diverse interests. I guess if I wait I'll see for myself, but inquiring minds want to know....if you don't mind giving a sneak-peek before the grand opening.

I'm afraid many of the members are spammers. It makes us look more popular at least :)

So, lets say that there was exactly 9 months between nown and the date we had 1100. So thats 2700 new members in ~40 weeks. Assuming all the members validating currently are spammers(not a bad assumption by the way), and the rate has been current. The validations are automatically deleted after 2 weeks right now. That's only 1400 spammers, but one must remember that they are being deleted now, where as before they were not. A better test will be from now until 3 or 4 months from now. The number who validate should be legit members.

Well yesterday my mill broke down right in the middle of building a 4" can. I'm out of BP so I have put that shell on hold and today made two sets of 3" hemis. They should take far less chems than my can shells. I will probably end up lifting them with H3 since I'm out of BP until I get myself another mill. These will be my first spherical shells, likely only tigertail since that is what I have made right now.

Also as of 10 minutes ago I'm 18.

Not much of a celebration I don't think tomorrow, especially now that I look over at the clock to see 2:25 starring back at me...

Ammo is the big deal for me. I hate going to the sporting goods store to dish out $15 for a mere small game license then having to get my parents to buy my shells.

hst45, it is currently set up to have 11 main sections (including main menu page, but not index): Main, Pyrotechnics, Chemistry, Plants, Homebrewing, DIY, Media (news articles, links to torrents, photo/vid gallery), Forum (possibly), Downloads (stuff im hosting... don't know what yet), Links (really freaking long page with links for the main sections. The only link page that i know of that deals with all the above and below), and Misc musings that apply to various sections but don't yet warrant a page to be created. Under-developed ideas... like magnetron experiments. (BTW used microwaves are like <$20 at GoodWill)...

Most of those sections will have sub-sections. For instance pyrotechnics currently has: "Pyro can fuck you up!" aka safety, the pyrotechnic workshop reference (which i need to really update and add credits too), Tutorials/documentation/projects, and tools. And a link at the bottom to the pyrotechnic link section of the link page. Chemistry will have: safety, inorganic synths, gas synths, coordination compound synths, organic synths, organometallic synths (Grignards, organolithium, cuprates, aluminum, etc...), extractions (from plants), tools/equipment, and again a link to the chem section of the links section. Some of the pages overlap in what kind of compound they can be considered. I'm trying to step off the beaten path in alot of instances. For example under extractions, im going to have a page devoted to Stevia... its a plant whos leaves have some compounds that are around 30-300x sweeter than sucrose by weight. Really cool stuff. I know it has been done before... I have a bottle of pure dried stevosides powder... but i have never read about it as some tutorial. I'll also have pages for like caffeine, capsaicin, etc. I have so many candidates for organic synths that you don't hear alot on... im keeping them in a separate text document for now so it doesn't take up too much space on the page lol. DIY is currently set to have: safety, radio/satellite/gps, possibly survival and natural living (like passive heating and cooling), high temperature (metal casting, ceramics, glass blowing, and other things id like to be able to do at home and am working on), low temperature (i want to see how low i can get something to go temperature wise, well below acetone/dry ice hopefully. -78C IIRC. Then perhaps condense various gases and such. Also im going to make a minifridge/freezer soon.), electronic projects, and misc projects. Also ill probably add a food section under DIY...

I'd take a "print screen" but i havn't made the final section buttons... currently just using temps made in MS paint lol. Pyro, Chem, DIY, and Links are going to shine. They will be extensively developed and really the sections that make the site.

So some things to water the mouth:

Stevia extraction, DIY lab clamps, Grignard reagents, Raney Nickel, wild numbing plants (literally water the mouth), metal casting, MgAl alloying, near-IR goggles, personal/lab/wine-bottle fridge/freezer, wild useful plants for survival food/first-aid, etc. Sadly nothing really "new" per-se under pyrotechnics, but it should still be great.

Wow, that's a lot of info! Add in alien propulsion devices and anti-matter conversions and you've got it all. That'll make you the number 1 non-porn site on the internet....or 3 trillionth overall. (Sorry, stole that line from "The Simpsons")

All joking aside, it sounds very interesting. I've actually done a bit of trial-and-error sort of research with non-sucrose sweeteners, and I do have some stevia powder. It all started as a brewing exercise in making "milk stout", a dark, sweet "desert beer" that uses maltose as a sweetener. Since yeast can't consume maltose like they do other sugars the beer has a distinctly sweet taste. It intrigued me, and I started collecting and toying with other things like polyols, stevia and such for various brewing/cooking/expertimenting endeavors. Anyway, keep us informed on your progress. If I can be of any help, let me know.

Those all looked pretty good. Even though the D1 has a pretty weak burst, it still made an attractive waterfall shell effect. If you remember what you did differently between them you're set.

ASB, that reminds me. I was working on a front page and some templates for tutorials for APC some time ago. I should probably get back on that. They were lacking at best as my html knowledge is mediocre, and CSS and PHP practically non-existant. I was struggling my way through it via Frontpage just to get an idea how to get things set up. Obviously using Frontpage isn't ideal, but setting stuff up, and looking at the code is actually pretty helpful in learning.
